This conference marks the Media Consortium’s 10th anniversary–a decade of success in which we’ve grown to over 80 outlets, added an array of services, and developed a unique collaborative network that has resulted in stories that have changed people’s lives.
At this conference we will once again offer independent news outlets the information you need to grow and strengthen your impact, from sessions on best podcasting practices to dealing with PR firms. You will have plenty of time to network with peers and celebrate this year’s Media Consortium Impact Award winners.
We will also take a day out (Feb 19) to look towards the future–a future in which those independent outlets that can connect with communities of color will be the ones that will thrive. In a full-day workshop on race equity, you will be able to assess the challenges, but also the opportunities, of adopting a racial equity frame for your work in hiring, in developing stories, and in engaging communities. Our goal is that you will leave the conference with concrete, affordable, chunk-able practices and policies you can implement.
Daytime sessions for TMC2016 will be held at the Hub: Commerce Square in Philadelphia located at 2001 Market Street 2nd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103 Commerce Square was designed by the legendary architecture firm I.M. Pei, of the Louvre Pyramid. Perhaps more important, its internal courtyard, considered a jewel of Philadelphia’s many green spaces, provides the access to nature that many of us consider critical to the work process. Located in the city’s Logan Square neighborhood right on Market St., The Hub Commerce Square is easily accessible from Philadelphia's SEPTA system. Parking is available nearby. And the TMC2016 conference hotel, Club Quarters, is only 4 blocks away.
